Summer Shares

In our summer CSA program, High Country residents sign up to become members of our CSA.  Members of our CSA receive weekly boxes of fresh, organic produce from local farmers.  Members of our CSA prepay for the season, so that our farmers can receive the money when they need it most -- to buy seeds, fix farm equipment, and prepare for the season.  Paying for the produce upfront also gives our farmers more financial stability, because they have a reliable estimate of what their income will be for the upcoming season (see our Pricing Structure page for more information).  Participating in a CSA supports your local farmers, and as such, it is an investment in the future of local, sustainable agriculture in the High Country.

Would you like to join us?  We are offering shares on a first-come, first-serve basis. To sign up, please review, complete, and return the membership form to us with your payment. Contact us with any questions at highcountrycsa [at] gmail [dot] com.

Priority deadline is April 15th. Sign up by June 1st for the entire season.

We are offering three share options for the 2013 season:

Garden Share: contains 4-6 vegetables weekly.  This option is perfect for small households (not intended to be split).  $300

Full Harvest Share: contains 7-10 season produce items, including herbs.  This share is appropriate for larger households, or small households that rely on produce for a significant portion of their diet.  $600

Variety Share: includes a garden share plus 2-3 specialty items including free-range eggs, breads, chevre, molasses, jams, granola and more. This option will introduce you to the best variety in High Country food.  $600

We also offer an egg share that can be added to any of the three main share options.  The egg share features a dozen free-range eggs biweekly (10 dozen total).  $42

We accept cash, check or EBT.

Pickup Locations: We are pursuing multiple pickup locations this season so we can connect more people with local food.  Our main "market-style" pickup location is at Bare Essentials in Boone every Tuesday from 3:00 - 6:30 pm.  We are also offering a pickup location for boxed shares at Blowing Rock Produce & Provisions from 3:30-6:30.  Let us know when you apply which location is best for you!

Variety: The High Country CSA is able to offer a wide variety of produce because we connect several local farmers and producers.  The quantity/frequency of each item depends on what grows best in the area and the season itself; we all work our hardest to provide the best of the best in the High Country. Here is a list of some of the produce we offer in our shares:

Similar to our winter program, we also feature an opportunity to order individual items a la carte via our website catalog during the summer.  The catalog will open once a month for add-on orders and features products such as meat, breads, goat cheese, and sweets (but not produce, all that goes to the shares).   Monthly ordering through the catalog is open to anyone, you do not have to be a member.

Send us an email to sign up!

What about local food through the winter?  High Country CSA organizes bi-weekly orders of local and organically grown meat, dairy, bread, and vegetables throughout the winter months.  Anyone can participate; contact us at highcountrycsa [at] gmail [dot] com for the next pickup date and brochure.
