Week 17: Bok choi

We have a lot to be thankful for this season.  Despite lack of rain and then too much rain early in the season, most of our farmers’ crops still did well.   This fall, we have had several crops that came early (pumpkins and winter squash), and some that have been delayed by a couple weeks (bok choi and napa cabbage).  This week, we will have some of that bok choi at pickup, as well onion, garlic, winter squash, arugula and Asian greens, and kale.  Also, we will once again have micro-greens from Sunshine Cove, back by popular demand.

Week 16: A Cornucopia of Winter Squash

Sweater weather is here!

One of the neatest aspects of participating in a CSA is that it attunes you to the change of seasons.  This week at pickup we plan to have some more late summer / early fall produce like potatoes and winter squash, but lest you think that summer is gone, we also plan to have summer squash, cilantro, hot peppers, and more greens.

Week 15: Stuffed Pumpkin

In our share this week, we expect to have arugula, lettuce, fingerling potatoes, and hot peppers as we have had in weeks past.  In honor of the cool, autumnal weather we have been having this week we also plan to have honey and fall squash.  Of course the honey is local, so hopefully it will bolster our immune systems before the cold and allergy season.

Week 14: Saturday on-farm workday

The next two weeks of shares will be smaller than usual as we begin to transition away from hot-summer produce to more fall produce.  This will probably be our last week of tomatoes, so be sure to make sauces and salsa out of them to freeze for the winter!  We plan to have tomatoes, greens, cucumbers, hot peppers, and sage.

Week 13: Eggplant

In this week’s share you can expect to see tomatoes, bell peppers, lettuce, and eggplant among a few other produce items.  We also have had an unexpectedly early harvest of pumpkins that one of our farmers will bring on Tuesday.  Autumn is coming early to the CSA!

Week 12: Okra

For our upcoming share this Tuesday, we plan to provide more peppers, potatoes, tomatillos, herbs, beans, watermelon, and – new this week – okra and eggplant.  Last week, Wiebe Farmin’ provided us with our Sugar Baby watermelon, and this week Wiebe Farmin’ will provide us with another variety of watermelon, Crimson Sweet, which look like standard watermelons and are super sweet.
